Wednesday night at Chief, we gathered women who run things. VP and C-suite. Founders and operators. Women who have already built something and are now asking what to do with the power that comes with it.
Here is what they said.
“Better than a twenty-dollar bill you find in your jeans.” That was one woman describing what it felt like to turn 65 and receive the email about the annuity a friend told her to open at 22.
“We need to be in the equity economy.” That was a founder building a company specifically to get women onto boards and into ownership.
“There is a significant difference between a CPA who files your taxes and one who is a strategist. When you find that person, it’ll unlock all kinds of opportunities.” That was a woman who had found hers.
Three women. Three different moments. The same gap underneath all of it: serious capital, serious ambition, and no room designed for the conversations that actually move things forward.
This is why we gather.
Because this is not a math problem. It is not an information problem. What I was looking for – what most of us are looking for – are people to tell us what they had done. Not what to do. What they had done.
And all the time we spend living outside of that – building in isolation, asking no one, pretending we have it figured out – is time we don’t get back.
